Handmade hunting knife better than factory knives

For most of us, almost all the damascus steel hunting Knives that we have used or are familiar with are factory-made knives. It is not that there is something wrong with them. Like everything else, technology has caught up with the knife making industry.

The modern knives made in factories are great, and often, they are as good as their handmade counterparts. Even the price may reflect this, since many high-quality factory knives can have prices as high as those of many hand-made hunting knives.

WHY GO TO HUNTING KNIVES MADE BY HAND?

Many people collect handmade hunting knives. There are several popular reasons for this:

Handmade knives are made from a wider variety of materials. Some of them are extremely exotic. Special steel can be used instead of stainless steel, and very rarely a handmade knife will use cheap stainless steel. Even the handle can be made of exotic wood or can use horns or ivory.

The steel used for handmade knives is often superior. They can be much sharper, can maintain their advantage for longer periods and are often resistant to moisture.

The materials are generally much more refined.

Sometimes, they can have special decorations and decorations. You can have a nice engraving, or you can use a gemstone as decoration.

The value of these knives does not really depreciate so much and they are very collectible.

As they are usually superior to regular knives (and often much nicer to look at), picking knives has become a popular pastime. There are literally thousands of knife manufacturers around the world that make knives by hand. Most collectors try to specialize in a type of handmade hunting knife.

You can collect knives from just one or a select group of knife makers. It's a bit like picking up Mustangs or muscle cars, except that the knives are much more affordable.

You can collect according to the style or pattern.

Maybe you can collect knives with the same type of material to handle, like ivory knives.

You can focus on a specific area, such as knives made in Germany or Japan.

Tips for collecting knives

If you are new to the hobby, it is very easy to make a mistake if you want to acquire a valuable collection. Do not make the mistake of paying too much for a knife that nobody else wants. The price is finally decided by the demand, and the lack of demand means that the price will be lower.

A "unique" handmade hunting knife is not necessarily valuable. If you have a unique knife made by a smaller knife maker, no one else will care. Instead, you may want to focus your attention on rare versions of common knives.

A knife made by a manufacturer of dead knives does not make the knife more valuable. Most collectors prefer new knives, and old knives are considered simply outdated. The exception here is if the knife maker is historically famous.

Remember, if you are picking knives, your own enjoyment is the most important. And if you also manage to obtain a valuable collection, that will be even better!
